Union Berlin coach, Croatian Nenad Bjelica, was handed a three-match suspension by the German Football League on Thursday after hitting Bayern Munich striker Leroy Sané in the face at the end of the match on Wednesday evening.
In the final minutes of Bayern’s match with Union in a late Matchday 13 match, Nenad Bjelica pushed Leroy Sané in the face as the Munich winger attempted to play a throw-in. The Berlin coach received a direct red card and Sané a yellow card.
The disciplinary committee of the German League decided on a sanction of three suspension matches and a fine of 25,000 euros for unsporting behavior against Bjelica, a sanction accepted by the Berlin club. After the match, Bjelica accused Sané of coming to “provoke” him, but admitted: “What I did was intolerable. I understand the red card.
Union Berlin is currently 15th in the Bundesliga with 14 points, one place and three points ahead of the relegation zone. Bjelica will miss the home clash against Darmstadt (18th) on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) then the trips to Leipzig (4th) and Mainz (16th).
