Relief on the side of Hertha Berlin. While she feared for her status, the old lady welcomed the press release of the day published by the DFB, the German football federation.

“The 36 sportingly qualified candidates have obtained the license for the next season 2023/24 of the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga” wrote the latter. The Berlin club, last in the championship, however, had to fight to obtain the license and finally won their case.

In the license application filed in March, according to the DFL, more guarantees were missing. Hertha, in deficit for a few seasons, had to fill a lack of liquidity of around 20 million euros. “This is good news for Hertha,” club general manager Thomas Herrich said in a statement on Monday. “We have done our homework over the last few weeks and months, we filed all the required documents with the DFL at the necessary time, last Wednesday, and we fulfilled all the requirements posed,” he said.

Not quite out of the woods, however, the club will have to be very careful with their finances in the near future. An immediate rise in the elite would be good economically. The workforce is still unclear and competition will be fierce next season in the 2.Bundesliga.
