German defender Jérôme Boateng (35), free since the expiration of his contract with Lyon at the end of June, trained with Bayern Munich on Sunday morning on the grounds of Säbener Strasse, the Bavarian club explained on its website Internet.

The day after the draw on the Leipzig pitch (2-2) during the 6th day of the championship, “the players who were not the starters trained on Sunday morning. Among them: Jérôme Boateng,” Bayern underlined. “Boateng is also due to train in the coming days at Säbener Strasse,” where Bayern Munich’s headquarters are located in the south of the Bavarian capital.

The 2014 world champion, without a contract since July 1, could serve at 35 as a backup solution for coach Thomas Tuchel, who only has three trained central defenders, the Frenchman Dayot Upamecano, the Dutchman Matthijs De Ligt and South Korean Kim Min-jae. After the injuries to these three defenders, “TT” had to line up defensive midfielder Leon Goretzka in central defense, for the 32nd final of the German Cup against Münster (4-0).

Boateng played for Bayern between 2011 and 2021, winning the Champions League twice in 2013 and 2020. He only played eight matches (just over fifty minutes on average) with Lyon last week. Lately, he has been talked about more off the field. Sentenced in September 2021 to 1.8 million euros for violence against his ex-partner for acts dating back to 2018, he saw his fine reduced on appeal to 1.2 million euros. On Wednesday, Bavaria’s highest court granted the three parties’ requests for review, overturning the conviction on appeal and ordering new proceedings for the same facts.
