RB Leipzig defeated Freiburg 3-1 on Sunday evening at the end of the 11th day of the German championship, a victory which allows Marco Rose’s men to take 4th place in the standings. With 23 points, Leipzig takes fourth place with two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, beaten last week by Bayern (4-0) and Saturday in Stuttgart (2-1). The club from eastern Germany is only one point behind Stuttgart (24).

The gap is however widened with the duo at the top of the Bundesliga, since Bayer Leverkusen has 31 points, two better than Bayern Munich (29). Leipzig took the lead in the sixth minute with the Dutchman Xavi Simons, who collected the ball 35 meters from the Freiburg goal and unleashed his 22-metre strike.

Friborg gradually regained a foothold in the match and Merlin Röhl equalized in the sixth minute of added time in the first half, with an individual feat of more than 50 meters. Leipzig secured their victory in the last quarter of an hour. Loïs Openda converted a penalty obtained by Christoph Baumgartner in the 79th minute, before he scored Leipzig’s third goal in the 80th minute.
