“We stopped playing after the goal,” regretted Senegal coach Aliou Cissé after the round of 16 of the African Cup lost against Ivory Coast (1-1, 5 tab to 4).

“We lost the main thread from the first goal” scored by Habib Diallo in the 4th minute, lamented the technician at a press conference. After the opening score, the Lions of Téranga stopped being dangerous and creating chances. By pushing, the Ivorians logically returned to the match after dominating the second period.

“I can’t explain why we lost the flow of the match, we had to continue playing, we can’t manage for 85 minutes,” he added. “It was we ourselves who complicated the match. We were happy in 2022, we are sad today,” concluded Cissé who won the CAN in 2022 with the same team. As since 2012, the winner of the previous edition cannot reach the quarter-finals.

Ivory Coast has started to dream again and can once again count on the unwavering support of its public who are behind it for the rest of this competition.
