The Brazilian goalkeeper, Lucas Perri, starting for the second time in the Lyon goals, was decisive in the penalty shootout and confided “having had a lot of success in this exercise in the past”. He stopped Thomas Delaine’s first attempt and undoubtedly influenced the psychological side of Lucas Perrin’s shot which flew into the stands.

“On penalties there is a personal feeling and there is a lot of work. I am a goalkeeper who has had a lot of success in this exercise in the past,” commented Perri, transferred for 3.2 million euros from Botafogo (1st Brazilian division) at the start of the winter transfer window.

As soon as qualification was assured, he was surrounded by his teammates in front of the south stand of the Groupama stadium. “It was just a wonderful feeling to be with all the friends around you. It’s a qualification and that was our main goal. I’m here to be ready. I work a lot. I am here to seize an opportunity in the cup or in the championship. I want to give the best of myself. I feel the support of the supporters and the club. I have only played two matches and I feel the love of the public towards me,” he confided.

“We all ran towards Lucas because without him we would not have won this session,” says midfielder Maxence Caqueret. “The supporters pushed us until the end and their support was very important. This is why we headed towards the stands and Lucas to celebrate this qualification,” he added, referring to “the confidence” of the Lyon team in this decisive exercise. “We would have preferred to win in the game but we also take penalties. In this exercise, we were sure of ourselves. We had worked on them in training. We knew we had good shooters and a good goalie who was going to get us through. We were calm and we managed to stay focused to win this session,” added Caqueret.
