Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel will participate in the next edition of the Tour of Spain (August 26-September 17) where he will defend his title, his team Soudal Quick-Step announced on Monday.
Evenepoel, who won for the second consecutive year Liège-Bastogne-Liège in April, withdrew to everyone’s surprise from the Tour of Italy in May on the evening of the 9th stage after contracting Covid-19, while he held the pink jersey.
“I can’t wait to get back to the Vuelta,” said the 23-year-old Belgian, quoted in his team’s statement. “I obviously only have good memories of my first participation last year.”
Evenepoel, who will defend his road world championship title in Glasgow on August 6, became the first Belgian to win a Grand Tour since 1978 by winning the Vuelta in 2022.
