The 6th season at Quick-Step will be the last for Fabio Jakobsen. The sprinter’s expiring contract will not be renewed at the end of the season. Jakobsen, 26, announced his departure from the team to Dutch media NOS, on the sidelines of the 8th stage of the Tour de France.
“I spoke with Patrick (Lefevere, the team manager) on the bus. Unfortunately I can’t stay and I have to find another team,” he said. The reasons for his departure are named Remco Evenpoel and Tim Merlier: Jakobsen thinks that his 2 teammates will prevent him from playing sprints, especially on the Grande Boucle. On this 2023 edition of the Tour de France, the Dutch sprinter was unlucky as he fell 3 times and still has not won a stage victory.
