Belgian Gerben Thijssen (Intermarché-Wanty) sprinted the first stage of the Algarve Cycling Tour on Wednesday in Lagos, Portugal (south). He was one length ahead of the Dutchman Marijn van den Berg. The favorites for the general classification Remco Evenepoel, Geraint Thomas, Sepp Kuss or Tao Geoghegan Hart finished in the peloton despite an impressive collective fall in the last kilometers.
