The European Cycling Union and the Italian Federation jointly declared this Monday that the 2029 European Road Championships will take place in the Aquila region. These championships will coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the April 6 earthquake in L’Aquila, which caused the loss of more than 300 lives.

Initiated in 2016 for the elites, these championships saw Peter Sagan or Alexander Kristoff win. Currently held by Christophe Laporte, the European champion jersey will be contested in France during the 2025 edition, which will take place in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Meanwhile, the 2024 European Road Championships will be held in Limburg-Flanders, Belgium.
