The German team announced the news this Friday. The former triple winner of the Vuelta, 33, announced last Saturday that he was going to leave the Jumbo-Visma team, where he had been since 2016 and which is at the heart of a possible merger project with Soudal-Quick Step.
Friday, on the eve of the Tour of Lombardy, the last Monument of the season, the manager of Bora, Ralph Denk, formalized the arrival of Roglic in his team.
“Primoz almost joined us as a neo-pro eight years ago. Today he comes with a long list of victories that very few riders have under their belt,” Denk said.
Roglic, one of the most complete riders of his generation, has 80 victories to his name, including four Grand Tours, but also Paris-Nice, the Dauphiné and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The former ski jumper is also the reigning Olympic time trial champion.
At Jumbo, he had to share leadership with Jonas Vingegaard, who gradually gained the upper hand by winning the last two Tours de France.
By joining the Bora team, Roglic should have more freedom to aim for a victory next July in the Grande Boucle, where he took second place in 2020 after being overthrown by Tadej Pogacar in the last time trial.
“That the team was really motivated to work with me was the deciding factor,” Roglic said in a statement sent by his new team.
In the German team, he will find confirmed general classification riders such as the Australian Jai Hindley and the Russian Alexander Vlasov as well as the young Belgian prodigy Cian Uijtdebroeks.
“Together, we want to leave our mark on the big races. Primoz appreciates the quality of our squad and knows its great potential,” insisted his new manager Ralph Denk.
