Simone Velasco (Astana) won the Italian road cycling championship in Comano Terme on Saturday, winning in a six-man sprint ahead of Lorenzo Rota (Intermarché), already second last year.

By winning at the end of the 227 km covered in the Trentino region (north), after more than 5h30 of racing, Velasco at the age of 27 won the most prestigious victory of his career.

Already fourth in the time trial on Thursday, he took the right breakaway on Saturday, a group that also included Matteo Trentin (UAE Emirates), a group that came back to Lorenzo Rota, alone in the lead, 7 km from the finish. .

He succeeds Filippo Zana, absent from this edition due to a fractured right collarbone.
