Slovenian Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorius) took the lead in the Tour of Poland on Sunday after winning the 2nd stage, 202.9 km long, after a final ascent of 3.7 km at 6, 9%, up to Karpacz.

Mohoric was ahead of the Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE, at the same time) and the Polish Michal Kwiatkowski (Ineos, 4 sec). The first Frenchman, Lenny Martinez, finished 6th, also 4 seconds behind.

With the bonuses, Mohoric is ahead of Almeida by 4 seconds in the general classification and Kwiatkowski by 10.

Lenny Martinez is in 9th place overall, 14 seconds behind Mohoric, winner of the 19th stage of the last Tour de France.

The Polish Rafal Majka attacked in the final, well followed by the Belgian Lennert Van Eetvelt, but the two men were caught in the last 300 meters.

Long run in the rain, the stage was marked by a long breakaway from the Italians Jacopo Mosca and Lorenzo Milesi, joined 25 km from the line, under the impetus of Ineos de Kwiatkowski, 49th in the last Tour de France and winner of the 13th stage on July 14 at the top of the Grand Colombier, and the Briton Geraint Thomas, winner of the 2018 Tour.

The winner of the first stage, the Belgian Tim Merlier (Soudal-Quick Step), finished 111th on Sunday, 12 min 58 sec behind the winner.

The third stage of this Tour of Poland which comprises seven stages, and from which the British title holder Ethan Hayter is absent this year, will take the riders from Walbrzych to Duszniki-Zdroj for a still very uneven course of 163.3 km.
