Tadej Pogacar (SLO, third in the world championships): “It was one of the hardest races of my career. The last 70 kilometers were pure pain. In the end we were all dead, I felt really bad after the race. I just wanted to go to sleep. It was a zombie sprint with Mads (Pedersen). I couldn’t get rid of the other three on the climbs which were too short for my characteristics. Mathieu was too strong. No one could respond to his attack. Kudos to him. I focused on second place but Wout took the corners super fast and he was gone. I then fell back on the third. Mads deserved to be on the podium too because he worked hard all day.
