Turkey clinched the first major title in their history by winning the Women’s Volleyball Euro 2023 against Serbia 3 sets to 2 (25-27, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13) on Sunday in Brussels.

The Serbs, double world champions in title, led 1-0, then 2-1, before yielding in the tie-break in particular against the attacker of Cuban origin Melissa Vargas (41 points).

The Turks, world N.1, had reached the last four of the four previous Euros before this tournament, finishing 2nd in 2019.

The bronze medal went to the Netherlands who won 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-20) in the match for 3rd place against Italy, defending European champions beaten by Turkey in the semi-finals on Friday.
