Switzerland and Israel drew 1-1 in the late match of the 7th day of qualifying for Euro-2024 on Wednesday in Felcsut, Hungary.
The meeting initially scheduled for mid-October was postponed and relocated to the Pancho Arena in Felcsut by UEFA after the deadly offensive by the Palestinian group Hamas against Israel on October 7.
The “Nati” is now tied on points (16) with Romania, which it will face next week. The Swiss selection will previously meet Kosovo on Saturday evening to try to take the place of leader of Group I.
FC Augsburg (Bundesliga) midfielder Ruben Vargas opened the scoring for Switzerland with a header in the 36th minute. In the second half the Israelis raised their level and multiplied the chances until Grenada striker Shon Weissman equalized in the 88th minute.
Israel is 3rd in the group with 12 points.
