Left back Cristiano Biraghi has been called up for Italy’s final two Euro 2024 qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine, the Italian football federation announced on Tuesday.

The Fiorentina captain, aged 31 and with 16 caps, joined the Azzurri training camp at Coverciano a few hours after the recall of Lazio defender Manuel Lazzari.

Juventus Turin midfielder Manuel Locatelli had to withdraw on Monday from the two decisive matches in Group C, in which Italy is three points behind Ukraine, with one more match to play. Locatelli, injured after Matchday 12 of Serie A on Saturday, joined AC Milan right-back Davide Calabria, Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret and Atalanta central defender Rafael Toloi on the list of injured players. Nationale players absent due to physical problems.

Coach Luciano Spalletti now has 27 players at his disposal while he had called up 29 on Friday.
