Bayer Leverkusen, leader of the German Championship, snatched a draw in Baku against Qarabag (2-2) in added time, continuing a series of 35 matches without defeat, Thursday in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League.

Qarabag led 2-0 after two goals from former Lyonnais Yassine Benzia (26th) and Juninho (45th 2). But Bayer also scored twice in the second half, through Florian Wirtz (70th) and Patrik Schick (90th 2).

Leverkusen, first in the Bundesliga with ten points ahead of Bayern Munich (2nd), therefore remains undefeated this season in all competitions (30 wins and 5 draws), a record series for a German club.

His last setback dates back to the final day of the German Championship, during the previous year, in Bochum (3-0) on May 27, 2023.

In the group stage of the C3 this season, Qarabag and Leverkusen had already been opposed in group H. Bayer won against the Azerbaijan team 5-1 at home then also 1-0 on the return leg.

Leverkusen finished first and Qarabag second, before qualifying for the rest of the competition in a play-off at the expense of Portuguese club Braga. The return match will be played next Thursday in Leverkusen.
