Marseillais Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was named best player of the year in the Europa League, where he scored ten goals in eleven matches and helped OM reach the semi-finals, UEFA announced this Friday.

Top scorer in the C3 this season, the 34-year-old Gabonese center forward now also holds the historic record in the competition, with 34 goals, surpassing Colombian Radamel Falcao (30). The former Dortmund, Arsenal and Barcelona striker, who arrived last summer from Chelsea, notably scored a hat-trick at home against Ajax Amsterdam in a group match.

On the list of best player in the Europa League, Aubameyang succeeds Jesus Navas (Seville), Filip Kostic (Frankfurt), Gerard Moreno (Villareal), Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan) and Eden Hazard (Chelsea). UEFA also elected German midfielder from Leverkusen Florian Wirtz, 21, best young player in the competition.
