At 42, Robbie Keane is launching his coaching career in earnest, and it will be far from Europe. The former striker (Inter Milan, Tottenham, Liverpool, Los Angeles Galaxy…) was appointed to Maccabi Tel-Aviv, 3rd in the last Israeli championship. He signed up for two seasons.
Keane, top scorer in the history of the Irish selection (146 matches, 68 goals), succeeds the Spaniard Aitor Karanka, former assistant to José Mourinho at Real Madrid (2010-13). He began his conversion to Atlético de Calcutta, as player-coach, in 2018. He was then assistant with the Irish team, Middlesbrough and more recently Leeds.
Arrived only a month ago in Leeds, he thus left the English club, relegated from the Premier League. Maccabi Tel-Aviv is in the running for the 2nd preliminary round of the Europa League Conference. Follow the football transfer window on our site.
