Former French international Jérémy Ménez suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his first match with Bari in the Italian 2nd Division Championship, his club announced on Monday.

“The examinations carried out since his injury against Palermo (Friday) have confirmed the first diagnosis (…) The player will be operated on in the coming days,” Bari said in a statement. “It’s bad news, but there are more serious things in life. I will come back stronger than before and 100%, I’m sure of it, ”said Ménez in a video published by his club.

Ménez, 36, signed a one-year deal with Bari in July, with an option for an additional season should the Puglia club move up to Serie A.

The former Paris SG player (2011-14) spent a good part of his career in Italy, at AS Roma (2008-11), AC Milan (2014-16) and Reggina, in Italian 2nd Division (2020-23).
