Italian coach Andrea Pirlo will leave the bench of Fatih Karagümrük, playing in the Turkish first division, less than a year after his arrival in Istanbul, the club announced on Wednesday.
“Since we cannot continue with Mr. Pirlo and his entourage next season, we have given them permission to leave us soon,” the Istanbul team said in a message posted on their Twitter and Instagram accounts.
The 2006 Italian world champion signed a one-season contract with Fatih Karagümrük in June 2022, a year after his dismissal by Juventus Turin. The Turkish club announced in the process that the assistant of the “Maestro”, Alparslan Erdem, would act on the bench until the end of the season.
Pirlo, who has won almost everything with AC Milan, Juventus and the Italian selection (1 World Cup, 2 Champions Leagues and 6 Italian championships) as a player, had had a difficult start to the season with the modest Istanbul club.
Fatih Karagümrük, who remain on two consecutive defeats in the league, currently occupy 9th place in the Turkish Süper Lig standings. “I will try to bring (in Turkey) the football that I have in mind (…) and I hope it will be a season full of success”, had hoped the ex-leader of Juve and AC Milan when they arrived in Turkey in June 2022.
