37-year-old Polish midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski, who spent most of his career at Borussia Dortmund, announced his retirement from sport on Thursday evening. “Every road has its end (…), I made the difficult decision to end my career,” he wrote in a post on his Facebook page.

With 109 caps, the midfielder is the Polish team’s second most capped player, behind his former Dortmund teammate Robert Lewandowski, who succeeded him as captain in 2014.

After starting his professional career at Wisla Krakow in 2005, “Kuba” stayed 10 seasons at Borussia until 2016 before wearing the colors of Fiorentina and Wolfsburg. In 2022, he returned to Krakow.
