The resumption of the Women’s Liga will wait. The players’ unions announced this Friday a general strike for the first two days of the championship in the absence of an agreement with the authorities concerning the improvement of their salary conditions: “After more than a year of negotiations and faced with the lack of agreement (…) the unions were forced to call two days of strike, “said the players’ union AFE in a press release.
This announcement comes nearly two weeks after the victory on August 20 of the Spanish team at the Women’s World Cup. A title eclipsed by the scandal of the forced kiss of the Spanish football boss Luis Rubiales to the player Jennifer Hermoso during the celebrations.
AFE and the other organizations representing the players denounce the “stalemate in negotiations” with the Liga F, the professional women’s league. These negotiations relate to an improvement in wage conditions in order, according to the unions, to “reduce the existing wage gap”. But they also relate, according to the press, to questions of training and the balance between sporting obligations and family life.
If no agreement is reached in the coming days between the players and La Liga F, the first two days, scheduled for September 8-10 and September 15-17, will have to be postponed.
Last season, the first day had to be postponed due to a strike by referees who finally obtained an increase in their remuneration and the creation of a fund to finance their pensions.
