Forty-three years after its launch, the last episode of the legendary manga “Captain Tsubasa” – whose animated series is known in France under the name “Olive et Tom” – was published this Thursday in Japan. “Now that I have finished drawing the final episode of the series, I am relieved to have finished everything and I feel liberated to finally be able to lead a life without publication deadlines to meet,” said manga artist Yoichi Takahashi on his X account (ex-Twitter). The adventures of “Captain Tsubasa” do not stop, however. Indeed, the 63-year-old cartoonist announced that he would continue to tell the exploits of Tsubasa Ozora on the internet with “storyboards”.
“Captain Tsubasa” has enjoyed worldwide success for almost half a century. Indeed, the mangas have sold nearly ninety million copies worldwide, according to the specialized site Mangazenkan and the animated series has been broadcast in more than a hundred countries across the globe. . Above all, the adventures of Tsubasa Ozora have inspired many football players, including some legends, such as Zinédine Zidane, Lionel Messi, or more recently, Kylian Mbappé. Suffice to say that the franchise has marked the history of football.
