Bologna and Salernitana won their place in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup on Tuesday, where Inter Milan and Juventus await them respectively. In the evening’s match between Serie A clubs, Bologna, 8th in the league, beat Hellas Verona (16th) 2-0.
Thiago Motta’s team opened the scoring through Nikola Mora (41st) before Sydney van Hooijdonk, son of former Dutch international Pierre van Hooijdonk, doubled the lead (62nd).
Bologna will face Inter, leader of Serie A and defending champion, in the round of 16. Another elite club, but currently bottom of the league, Filippo Inzaghi’s Salernitana beat Sampdoria 4-0, now in Serie B and coached by Andrea Pirlo. The young Frenchman Loum Tchaouna (20 years old), who passed through Rennes, notably scored a double. Salernitana will face Juventus in the next round, where Inzaghi played from 1997 to 2001.
