French Tigres striker André-Pierre Gignac became the top scorer in the history of the derby on Saturday against Monterrey, Mexico, by scoring a decisive double. The Tigres won at home 3-0 against CF Monterrey, their great rival, on the 9th day of the opening tournament of the Mexican championship.
Gignac scored his team’s first two goals in the 29th minute, then in the 59th minute from the penalty spot, before a third goal from Diego Lainez, a winger who played for Betis Seville in Spain and Braga in Portugal.
The former Olympique de Marseille scorer thus reached the 12 goals scored in this Northern derby, and became the top scorer of the clash by overtaking the Brazilian Bahia, former Monterrey player. It was also Gignac’s 300th match in the Mexican championship since his arrival at the Tigres in 2015. He has scored 193 goals in all competitions.
