Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah, Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen are the three nominated for the best African player of the year award, the Confederation of African Football announced on Thursday.

The name of the winner, who will succeed Liverpool’s Senegalese striker Sadio Mané, will be revealed on December 11 in Marrakech.

Osimhen, Italian champion with Naples and quarter-finalist of the Champions League, and Salah were the first two African players in the ranking of the last Ballon d’Or (8th place for Osimhen, 11th for Salah).

Hakimi can rely on Morocco’s good performance at the 2022 World Cup, the Atlas Lions being the first African selection to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
