The Saudi Football Federation has said it is ready to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup in summer or winter, after FIFA announced that the Gulf kingdom was the only candidate to host the tournament.

“We are ready to face all possibilities,” its president, Yasser Al-Misehal, told AFP on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) awards ceremony in Qatar. Saudi Arabia’s candidacy comes less than a year after the organization of the first World Cup in winter, in neighboring Qatar.

Temperatures can rise up to 50 degrees Celsius in summer in the Gulf region, one of the hottest in the world. “There are many new technologies that make it possible to cool or add air conditioners in stadiums, not to mention that many cities in the kingdom enjoy a very pleasant atmosphere in summer,” underlined the Saudi football boss.
