Last Sunday, when he was two seconds ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon a few laps from the finish, Pierre Gasly was ordered to let him pass to gain… 9th place . A decision that ultimately took offense to the 10th in the Japanese event: “I don’t understand the decision to change the places, knowing that this had never been discussed before the race. I had done better qualifying, I was in front and I had more pace at the end with fresher tires. I don’t really understand the need to do this. But we finished 9th and 10th and that’s three more points for the team. The rest, we will discuss it internally.”

An opinion to which Ocon responded firmly to Auto Hebdo: “I have been in this team for four years and the rule has always been the same. If you swap positions during the race, which is what I did with Pierre – I gave him my position – if you can’t get the car in front, then you have to give up the position before the checkered flag. And Ocon added, in reference to the recent past: “It was the same with Daniel Ricciardo and it was the same with Fernando Alonso. We do this, if it’s me, if it’s him, if it’s the other way around, I’ll do the same thing. Of course, I always prefer to fight on the track, it’s a bit old school but I understand the team’s point of view, which is to try to score as many points as possible.
