Will Max Verstappen go for an 11th victory in a row on the Singapore circuit this Sunday, September 17? To do this, the Dutch Red Bull driver will have to dominate 19 competitors during one of, if not the most grueling Grand Prix of the season. Nico Rosberg, who roamed the Formula 1 paddocks for ten years (2006-2016), has not forgotten the sensations in Singapore.
“I lost 3.6kg just from sweating,” Rosberg shared with Sky Sports. The former Williams and Mercedes driver talks about the heat and humidity at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. “There is no fresh air, the belts are very tight. Turn after turn, you have to hold your breath when you turn,” Rosberg continues.
And the 38-year-old former driver added: “I remember that after 10 laps, I saw that there were 50 left and I said to myself: ‘I’m dead.’ It’s a horrible feeling in the car, like you’re in a sauna on an exercise bike for two hours. The sweat gets in your eyes and burns, it’s incredibly hard.”
The Singapore GP was first held in 2008. It has taken place every year since, except in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, Sergio Perez (Red Bull) won ahead of the two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Verstappen, who started in 8th position on the grid, finished 7th.
