Driven by the fervor of lovers of beautiful mechanics and legendary cars, historic rallies are on the rise in France. Even if for the organizers, setting up this type of event is often an obstacle course, meetings are popping up all over the country to the delight of these lovers of mishaps. Gentleman drivers, sometimes wealthy at the wheel of prestigious cars, experienced or on the contrary younger, penniless crews fixing up a Citroën Visa or a Peugeot 205 with pieces of string, the candidates for a trip into the past have arranged to meet since this Tuesday in Corsica around the same passion.
In more than two decades, the Tour de Corse has become one of the flagships of national and even world historic rallying. We come from all corners of France, Europe and even the world (fourteen nationalities represented) to travel every autumn the roads where the best rally drivers have distinguished themselves since 1956 in the assault on this former World Championship event. . Proof of this enthusiasm, one week after registration opened, the 380 available places were all allocated.
Let us push the mushroom to seek victory at the wheel of competition vehicles from before 1990 while rubbing shoulders with big names in motorsport (Alain Oreille or Romain Dumas are entered in Porsche), let us prefer science regularity like Bruno Saby (winner of the Tour de Corse 1986) or that we take pleasure in riding without the pressure of timing on legendary closed sections, all profiles have their place in the three different categories. Not everyone will have the same objectives but will take an identical route: 395 kilometers on closed roads alternating with nearly 570 kilometers of connection.
A grandiose five-day spectacle for the public who will be able to gather on the roads of this real Tour de Corsica since the route started from Porto Vecchio, will follow the east coast of the island towards Borgo/Lucciana before setting sail towards the western part and follow the coastline to the south of the island before returning to Porto-Vecchio, on the marine platform, facing the sea, just to enjoy the landscapes of the setting one last time island.
