Monaco’s new director of football, the Brazilian Thiago Scuro, and the new coach, the Austrian Adi Hütter, have a lot of ambitions for the Principality club and are aiming for the Champions League, they assured Thursday during their meeting. presentation press conference.

Thiago Scuro: “Monaco is a very strong brand, with a big reputation in South America. When I started to study the project, the group in depth and the vision of the president, the decision to come was obvious.

“Finding the Champions League group stage is the most important goal of the season. Everyone must be invested in this goal. My desire is to convince everyone that we can do it. It will take hard work and a lot of dedication.”

Adi Hütter: “Monaco is a great club, with a great tradition and a great history. Since my arrival on Monday, I have been impressed with the performance center and the professionalism within the club.

“We have very high ambitions. The major task is to play in Europe for the club’s 100th anniversary (in August 2024, editor’s note). Thiago and I are here for that.

Scuro: “I’ve always had a long working relationship with the coaches. Bringing stability is a will. It’s essential. I believe in a straight and healthy relationship with the coach.”

“Adi (Hütter) had long tenures at his previous clubs. His teams played aggressive football. This is the key point for the future. He is also a man who is part of a collective work. I am confident that he will be the right man.”

Hütter: “In Mönchengladbach (which he trained in 2021-22, editor’s note), I was promised a lot in terms of the workforce. But the sporting director left after three months. We played boring football. His successor had other ideas. We terminated the contract. This break allowed me to think, recharge the batteries after 350 matches in seven years.

“I want to develop young people, help everyone flourish. I want players hungry for success. We want to set up proactive football, based on sprints, rapid transitions. The human side is also very important to me. I like to communicate, to build good relationships.”

“With the players, we didn’t talk about the past (discipline problems, editor’s note). Attitude and behavior are important for success. My role is to enforce discipline. You will also have to train very hard to succeed.”

Scuro: “We are closely monitoring the situation in Toulouse. Europe would change plans regarding our workforce and we are preparing for this eventual scenario. But we have other assets than Europe to attract. We want to work with the players for the long term.

“We have defined work paths. Regarding the goalkeeper position, we are very attentive to the market. The profile of the players wanted has been similar for several seasons: physical capacity and speed are important. They must be hungry for conquests.”

Hütter: “We have a lot of attackers. It is too early to talk about our future systems. But it is certain that the team conceded too many goals last season. We have to work on it, be compact, attentive defensively. I also noticed that Monaco had been a bit unlucky. Our principles will not be very different from those of last season.

“It will take a few players. Currently nine internationals are on vacation. It takes all those talents.”
