The Spanish football league has called on a lip-reading expert to investigate alleged insults by Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham towards English Getafe player Mason Greenwood, La Liga told AFP on Saturday.
“Getafe made a complaint to the La Liga match director and, as is normal on this kind of occasion, the league asked a lip-reading expert to investigate the matter and act on the basis from what he is able to confirm,” said a La Liga spokesperson.
England international Jude Bellingham appeared, according to images published by the Spanish press, to call his compatriot Mason Greenwood a “rapist” (“rapist” in English, Editor’s note) during the Getafe-Real Madrid match won Thursday 2-0 by the visitors.
The ex-Manchester United prospect, 22, is on loan to Getafe from the English club until the end of the season, after being suspended in 2022 by the Premier League following accusations of rape and assault on his partner. The charges were dropped in February 2023, allowing Greenwood to relaunch his career in the Madrid suburbs, where he scored 4 goals in 18 games this season.
