It is a date marked with a red cross every year in the diary on Pentecost weekend by lovers of old cuckoo clocks and more modern planes. Since 1970, the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis has brought together around 40,000 spectators each year in the spring in the countryside south of Paris, at the Cerny – La Ferté-Alais aerodrome to relive the great adventure of ancient and modern aviation, civil and military.
Decades come and go but the winning formula has not changed. It ensures this meeting is an uninterrupted success in the countryside with two days of entertainment, each divided into two highlights. The morning is devoted to discovering the aircraft on the ground: 150 planes will be exhibited in the grass for the eyes of the curious who will be able to meet the collectors, pilots and mechanics and perhaps have the privilege of boarding the planes or even reserving a first flight while taking the time to visit the village.
The exhibition of these treasures of the air until midday is followed, after a break which will allow all families to picnic or eat on site, by the big show in the afternoon. Five hours of great spectacle to tell the story of the lords of the air, from the pioneers Clément Ader, Louis Blériot, Roland Garros to the most efficient fighter planes like the Rafale. An afternoon during which heads will be turned towards the sky (watch out for stiff necks and sunburns!), attentive ears to listen to the comments and music accompanying the scenes.
Because at the Cerny – La Ferté-Alais meeting, the planes don’t just pass in front of the wide-open eyes of the spectators. History lovers will relive some of the great moments of military history and the reconstruction of aerial battles with explosions and pyrotechnic effects.
Now a world-famous event, the Temps des Hélices tries to renew itself every year by modifying its line-up with a few surprises and nuggets of the air unearthed by the organizers. The 2024 edition will allow you to discover, for example, the Blériot but also by Adrienne Bolland to cross the Andes.
They will be followed by the presentation of aircraft from the First World War: Fokker Dr.1, Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5, Stampe SV4 and the only Spad XIII in flying condition in the world, then more recent machines known to the general public. In bulk: the famous Patrouille de France, the Rafale Solo Display (RSD) and the impressive Aerobatic team of the Air Force will delight the crowd with a stunning demonstration with its Extra 330SC.
