Two coaches in two days! Getafe, which had sacked its technician Quique Sanchez Flores on Thursday and named its sporting director Ruben Reyes to succeed him on Friday, finally hired José Bordalás, who had initially refused the offer, as coach.

“Getafe CF have reached an agreement with José Bordalás for the latter to occupy the bench of the first team. The Alicante coach returns to what was his home,” welcomed the club from the southern suburbs of Madrid in a statement on Saturday.

“As coach of Getafe, Bordalás had led 212 matches between 2016 and 2021, managing to raise the team to the first division and even snatching a qualification in the Europa League”, recalled the club.

Sacked from Valencia in June 2022, Bordalás had since been without a club. He will therefore train Getafe at least until the end of the current season, with the aim of keeping the club, currently relegated, in the Spanish first division. Ruben Reyes remains in place as sports director.

Quique Sanchez Flores was dismissed after Getafe’s defeat on their lawn on Wednesday against Almeria 2-1, leaving the club in the red zone, in 18th place, one point behind the first non-relegation player, Cadiz (32 points).
