Almeria, bottom of the Spanish championship, sacked their coach Gaizka Garitano on Wednesday and replaced him with Pepe Mel, the club announced in a press release.

Pepe Mel is Almeria’s third coach this season after Garitano took over in October from Vicente Moreno. Former coach of Betis Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano, the Madrilenian left the Greek club OFI Crete in February.

He arrives with the delicate mission of trying to save the very compromised situation of Almeria, last in the championship with 10 points, 14 points from the first non-relegation, Celta Vigo.
