Sevilla can’t do it. José Luis Mendilibar’s men are starting the 2023/2024 season very difficultly as the previous one had been, this time with two early defeats. Defeated at home against Valencia last week for their debut, the Andalusians conceded a new defeat, on the ground of Deportivo Alaves (4-3) on Monday.

At the end of a spectacular game with seven goals, the Sevillians were able to come back and lead thanks to goals from Abqar against his side (15th) and Erik Lamela (41st) to respond to the opening of the early Basque score from Rioja (7th). But shortly before halftime (44th) Duarte unleashed a heavy strike from the left to deceive Dimitrovic and send the two teams to the locker room at 2-2.

After the break, Alaves completely dominated the proceedings, breaking quickly at 4-2 with the two goals of Kike Garcia (54th and 59th) who arrived this summer free from Osasuna. The superb reduction in the gap of Rafa Mir (90 7) after a cannon shot did not change anything. Sevilla are 18th after two rounds.

SI Sevilla is 18th, Granada is 19th. Paco Lopez’s team couldn’t do anything at home against Rayo Vallecano, suffering the law of Madrid in less than five minutes. Reduced to ten at the very end of the game after the red card from Puertas (86th), it was to eleven that the Andalusians conceded the two very fine goals scored by Alvaro Garcia (75th) then Pathé Ciss (79th) following ‘a fixing from Raul De Tomas, giving Rayo the second victory of the season, which is in 2nd place just behind Real Madrid.

Only Real Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and FC Valencia have two victories in as many days in Spain.
