Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior, back in the Madrid group after a hamstring injury, is finally out of the derby against Atlético Madrid on Sunday (9:00 p.m.), his club announced. “Vinicius Junior, last minute absent,” Real Madrid wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
According to Spanish media, the striker, who was also recalled to the Brazil team for the qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup against Venezuela and Uruguay, suffers from gastroenteritis.
The Brazilian returned from injury earlier than expected, and was included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for Sunday’s encounter for the first time in almost a month. He injured his right thigh during the championship match against Celta Vigo on August 25, and should have taken at least a month to recover, according to the Spanish press.
