Polish goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, 23, will be Nice’s No.1 goalkeeper for the 2023-24 season, while Kasper Schmeichel has been cleared to seek a club, sources with knowledge revealed on Thursday evening folder. Arrived last season from the English club Leicester, the Danish international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel learned from the sports management of the Nice club that he would not start this season with Nice.

He received permission to leave the Côte d’Azur on Thursday to travel to Denmark to negotiate a future transfer there. Schmeichel, 36 and under contract until June 2025 with the Aiglons, will therefore not be part of the Nice group which will host Lille on Friday at 9:00 p.m. for the opening of the Ligue 1 championship.

The young Teddy Boulhendi, 22, will be Marcin Bulka’s understudy. It is also not certain that Schmeichel will be present at the resumption of training, scheduled for Tuesday morning, after the scrubbing on Saturday and two days of rest, Sunday and Monday.

Under contract with Nice until June 2026, Bulka (1.99m), who played in youth teams at Chelsea then at Paris SG, had already put Schmeichel in competition last season, before being injured and having to to operate on a shoulder, thus spending the entire second part of the season in the infirmary. Bulka will keep, except for last minute unforeseen events, Nice’s goals against Lille on Friday.
