Italian central defender from Nice, Mattia Viti, 21, has been loaned for a season with an option to buy Sassuolo, which plays in Serie A, the Riviera club announced on Thursday evening.
Arriving in Nice last summer from Empoli for a transfer worth 13 million euros, Viti, then an Italian U21 international, never won, blocked by Dante’s excellent season. In the end, he only played 12 games, for one goal scored, against Troyes.
In Sassuolo, which finished 13th in the last Italian championship, Viti will find coach Alessio Dionisi, who had made his professional debut with Empoli.
According to various sources familiar with the matter, the defender’s loan is paying off, and the objectives for the purchase option to be exercised are very easily achievable, so that the player’s definitive transfer to Sassuolo at the end of next season should netting a total of around €10m for Nice.
