Auxerre and Guingamp started their season with a bang, both winning 4-1 on opposing sides to take the lead in Ligue 2 after a first day marked by the defeats of Saint-Étienne and Angers. An inaugural day which will end on Monday with the Pau-Bordeaux meeting.
AJA won in Valenciennes and Guingamp in Annecy, the last minute draft following the relegation of Sochaux, after a disputed meeting behind closed doors due to its late programming. The Greens fell from above to Geoffroy-Guichard at the start of the day, surprised at the end of the match by a goal from Grenoble Sanyang (0-1), while Angers lost to Laval (1-0 ).
In addition to the first two leaders on goal difference, four other teams won: Caen (3rd) on the ground of Paris FC (2-0), Grenoble, Amiens against Quevilly-Rouen (1-0, goal by Mathis Touho at 90 3rd) and Laval. At the Charlety stadium, Caen and its new coach Jean-Marc Furlan, a specialist in Ligue 1 climbs, certainly took advantage of the first exclusion of the season, that of Parisian Jules Gaudin in the 33rd minute after a second yellow card.
With Angers, the two other relegated from Ligue 1, Ajaccio and Troyes, did not succeed on their debuts: the Corsican club was hooked by Rodez at home (1-1) and Troyes in Dunkirk (2-2), which was his return to Ligue 2 on Saturday. This first day began with the Saint-Étienne – Grenoble derby, which cooled the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. The Greens had however believed to make the difference twice at the end of the match, but Gaëtan Charbonnier saw his penalty pushed back by the goalkeeper of Grenoble Brice Maubleu (83rd), then a goal was refused to Ibrahima Wadji for offside (86th ).
Before their match in Pau on Monday, the Girondins, big favorites for the comeback, occupy the last place in the classification because of the penalty of one point which they were imposed following the incidents of the last day of the previous season against Rodez.
