Steve Shanks, from Nottingham, was an experienced runner who finished the race in two hours, 53 minutes and 26 seconds, organizers said on Wednesday, adding that the cause of his death would be established later by medical examination. “Everyone at London Marathon Events has been deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Steve Shanks,” organizers said. “A fundraising page for the Multiple Sclerosis Society has been created in memory of Steve.”Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum won the men’s race in a record time of two hours, one minute and 25 seconds, while the athlete Dutch middle-distance rider Sifan Hassan won the women’s race on her marathon debut, to everyone’s surprise. Over 48,000 people completed the race.
