Italian international Gianluca Scamacca returns to Italy with Atalanta after a disappointing season at West Ham, the Bergamo club announced on Monday. The 24-year-old striker signed up for four years, until 2027, with Atalanta, which paid 25 million euros according to the specialized press to recruit him.

Scamacca joined West Ham last summer for €36m from Sassuolo, but his only season in the Premier League was marred by adjustment problems and injuries. In the Hammers jersey, Scamacca, who notably worked for the youth teams of PSV Eindhoven, scored eight goals in 27 matches in all competitions.

He will replace in Atalanta, 5th in the last Italian championship, Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund who left for Manchester United for 74 million euros.
