The Swiss international Yann Sommer is the new goalkeeper of Inter Milan, announced Monday the Italian club, in search of an experience N.1 after the departure of Cameroonian Andre Onana to Manchester United. “Experience, leadership and dedication, these are the qualities that Sommer is ready to put to the benefit of the black and blue jersey”, indicates the press release from Inter which formalizes the arrival of the player.
The duration of his contract with the Lombard club, winner of the 2023 Italian Cup, is not specified. The transfer fee is estimated at six million euros. Sommer, 34, joined Bayern Munich last January to replace Manuel Neuer, who suffered a severe right knee injury (lower part fracture) during a ski outing in early December. The Swiss goalkeeper had a contract expiring in 2025 with Bayern, but Neuer, who has not yet participated in the preparation matches of the German champion, will regain his starting place.
“I will never forget my experience at such a great club,” Sommer said on his Instagram account in his farewell message to Bavarian fans. Sommer (83 selections for the Swiss team), passed by FC Basel and Vaduz, spent most of his career in Germany, at Borussia Mönchengladbach (2014-23).
