Chelsea have reached an agreement with AS Roma for the loan of Belgian international striker (108 caps, 75 goals) Romelu Lukaku, the Gazzetta dello Sport announced on Monday evening.
According to the Italian sports daily, it is a one-year loan with no option to buy. The London club would recover 5.8 million euros in the operation when the player, who agreed to a pay cut, would receive 7.5 million euros per year. Lukaku should arrive in Rome on Tuesday for his medical examination, specifies the Gazzetta. At Roma, the Belgian will find José Mourinho who has already managed him at Chelsea and Manchester United.
Recruited by Chelsea in 2021 for 115 million euros after a first stint between 2011 and 2014, Lukaku had already been loaned last season to Inter Milan, with whom he relaunched by scoring 14 goals.
Roma and its American owner Dan Friedkin are particularly active during this summer transfer window. On Saturday, 28-year-old Iranian international Sardar Azmoun from Bayer Leverkusen joined the club on a loan with an option to buy.
Argentinian midfielder from Paris SG Leandro Paredes has returned to the Italian capital six years after leaving it. Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches has also left PSG for Roma, this time on a loan with an option to buy. Lyonnais Houssem Aouar signed up with the Roman club in June for a period of five years.
