AS Monaco, which announced Tuesday evening that it had transferred its Portuguese striker Gelson Martins, 28, to Olympiakos, is also awaiting the arrival of German defender Thilo Kehrer, 27, to be loaned by West Ham.
At the end of his contract in June 2024 with Monaco, Gelson Martins, a Portuguese international who had been acquired for 30 million euros during the 2019 winter transfer window, was sold for three million euros to the Greek club Olympiakos, which made his arrival official. In total, Gelson Martins (21 caps with Portugal) will have played 129 matches (16 goals and 14 assists) with Monaco, including 103 in Ligue 1. But this season, the Principality club no longer counted on him. He had not played a single official meeting with the team.
At the same time, Monaco is awaiting the arrival, in the form of a loan with a purchase option for around 10 million euros, according to a source close to the matter, of German defender Thilo Kehrer, 27 years old. Able to play as a central defender or right back, the former Paris Saint-Germain player has been playing with West Ham since last season. He won the last Europa Conference League there.
Little used this season by the English club (12 matches played, including only four in the Premier League), the German international (27 caps) will soon arrive in Monaco to undergo his medical examination and finalize his arrival. It would allow Adi Hütter, the Monegasque coach, to compensate for the absences at the post of Wilfried Singo and Krepin Diatta, who left to compete in the African Cup of Nations, respectively with Ivory Coast and Senegal.
