An unexpected outcome in the Mbappé soap opera? At the end of his contract with PSG next summer, the French international (24 years old, 73 caps) will be free to sign up with the club of his choice if he does not extend. Everything suggests that he would set his sights on Real Madrid, who have been trying to enlist him for several years already.
But according to Spanish radio Cadena SER, the Spanish club would no longer consider bringing in the Parisian striker. The first reason is economic. The Madrid leaders would not like to offer an excessive salary to Kylian Mbappé, while Jude Bellingham, current star of the team, receives around 10 million euros per year.
The second reason is sporting. Aged 25, the captain of the Blues would not fall within the policy of signing players under 23. Finally, President Florentino Pérez and his team believe that Mbappé’s popularity rating among White House supporters has fallen.
A few days ago, Real Madrid published a press release to deny the existence of contractual negotiations with the player. “In view of the information recently issued and published by various media, which speculate on alleged negotiations between the player Kylian Mbappé and our club, Real Madrid C.F. wishes to declare that this information is completely false and that no negotiations of this type took place with a PSG player,” the Merengue wrote.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, PSG president Nasser al-Khelaïfi said he “did not see their statement”: We are all focused on ourselves and our football, not on others. Kylian continues to achieve great things and maybe people take him for granted, but no one has played in two World Cup finals and even scored a hat-trick. I repeat: Kylian is the best in the world, it’s great to see him at the helm of PSG and France. It has a positive effect on our young people, it helps us build our future.”
