Brazilian left-back Atlético de Madrid Renan Lodi is expected to join OM in the coming days, AFP learned Thursday from a source familiar with the case, confirming information given by several sports media.
The player must arrive in Marseille in the evening before having his medical examination on Friday. The transfer is valued at around 13 million euros. This will be the second Marseille recruit after midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, also from Atlético de Madrid.
After the departures of Nuno Tavares, Sead Kolasinac and Issa Kaboré, all at the end of their contract, OM are currently very short of full-back positions, with Jonathan Clauss alone as a specialist.
It is therefore one of the priority projects of the duo formed by Marseille president Pablo Longoria and his director of football Javier Ribalta, the new coach Marcelino having announced that he would play with a four-man defense.
Aged 25, Renan Lodi arrived in 2019 at Atlético. Often a starter in his first Madrid seasons, he played on loan last season at Nottingham Forest. He has 16 caps with Brazil.
