Defender and captain of the Ivorian selection Serge Aurier has signed until the end of the season with Galatasaray from Nottingham Forest, the Turkish club announced on Friday evening. The right back, who will face Mali with the “Elephants” on Saturday in the quarter-final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), was recruited by Galatasaray to fill the recent departure to Bayern Munich of Frenchman Sacha Boey.
Aged 31, Serge Aurier, who played for Lens, Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain, played five and a half seasons in the Premier League, at Tottenham (2017-2021) and Nottingham Forest (2022-2024). The Ivorian, winner of the 2015 CAN, also wore the colors of Villarreal during the 2021-2022 season. Turkey’s most successful club, Galatasaray is neck and neck with its arch-enemy Fenerbahçe for first place in the Turkish Süper Lig standings.
